It is club policy that we operate a safe flying site and to that end, all Club Members are required to hold a current BMFA Insurance Certificate before operating engines/models within the Club’s area of responsibility. No-one is allowed to fly solo until passed as competent by the Club examiner.

There are a number of instructors in the club who teach beginners to fly, taking them through all the stages required to attain their BMFA ‘A’ Certificate. Coaching and instruction is totally free. One Instructor has been tested and approved by an area examiner and is authorised to award BMFA ‘A’ certificates. Members can receive coaching to the level required for gaining a BMFA ‘B’ certificate which is the basic mandatory requirement before flying and demonstrating at any public display.

A Safety Sheet is issued to each member. The items raised on that sheet are to be observed and any relevant precautions taken. Because of our remote location, it was agreed at the 2003 AGM that each member should have a First Aid Kit. All new members will accordingly receive a personal basic first Aid Kit upon joining the club. For the reasons stated, your First Aid Kit should always be available when you are at the field – remember we depend upon each other where safety is concerned.

Club Fee System

Club fees are determined at the AGM which is normally held on the last Sunday in July.

The full Club fee is due at the AGM or at latest by 31st August

See bottom of page for current fee structure.

The Club arranges payment of insurance premiums directly through the BMFA. Individual policies are issued to each member, normally in the middle of December. The BMFA insurance premium is due at the same time as the Club fee.

The BMFA Insurance scheme runs from 1st January to 31st December. It is established Club policy that fees are collected after the AGM purely because of the practical difficulties (both financial and logistical) with collecting fees around Christmas time. In view of the advance payment the Club Committee estimate the following year's BMFA Fee. Should the BMFA Fee be higher than what has been paid then the Club will absorb the cost of the difference.

Members joining the Club during the year are required to pay the full insurance premium. Allowance for any appropriate amount of rebate due is made by the BMFA in the form of a credit note, and the next fee payment will be adjusted accordingly. Details of fees payable are shown on the current BMFC Application Form.

All cheques should be made payable to the Banbury Model Flying Club or BMFC. A receipt will be issued as proof of payment of the appropriate fee by the Treasurer. New members without current BMFA Insurance will be issued with a temporary BMFA membership card. This card provides full BMFA Insurance cover until the BMFA process the paperwork submitted by the Club Secretary, after which the full official documentation is issued for retention by the new member.

Visitors – only visitors who are competent flyers will be allowed to use our facilities. They must seek permission to fly from a committee member who will insist on the visitor producing a current BMFA Insurance document before briefing them on club safety rules. The visitor's model will be scrutinised to ensure that it meets our safety criteria, after which a club instructor will check the visitor out to ensure that they are competent before being allowed to fly solo.

A fixed daily fee of £5.00 is payable by visiting flyers - without exception.
